When traveling abroad, it is sometimes necessary to consult a medical professional, pharmacist, or other service provider. However, language barriers can make it challenging—if not impossible—to clearly communicate our needs and ensure our interlocutors understand what we require.

Ideally, one would have access to an application capable of locating and displaying on a smartphone all nearby stores and professional offices—places where at least one staff member speaks our language.

Such an app would allow users to contact these establishments, confirm their availability, and navigate the shortest route to reach them via a map interface.

ItalyNear is currently the only application on the market offering this specific service.

ItalyNear is an innovative, geolocation-based app designed to streamline the experience of Italians abroad who are not fluent in the local language. It provides access to a global network of carefully selected operators—comprising shops and professional offices located abroad where staff can communicate in Italian.

The ItalyNear network includes merchants, artisans, doctors, and various professionals living abroad and speaking Italian, who are available for contact by their fellow countrymen.

The app enables users to search for operators based on their type and location. It can generate a list of the nearest operators tailored to the user's current position.

For each operator listed, ItalyNear offers a detailed profile containing contact details (name, role, address, operating hours) along with quick access options such as phone calls, email, WhatsApp messaging, website links, and Google Maps integration. Users can directly contact the operator, verify their availability, and view the shortest route on the map to reach them.

ItalyNear allows two registration modes: as a user or as an operator. Registering as a user grants access to view profiles of all operators. Registering as an operator enables business owners and professionals living abroad who speak Italian to create and update their profiles accordingly. This registration is reserved for those engaged in public-facing activities overseas and able to communicate in Italian.

The application is freely available to both users and operators.
